I saw this movie for two reasons. The first: large amount of filming done in Taranaki. The second: Sean said let's go to the movies. So I did.
It was better than I expected, although I'm not a huge samurai or Cruise fan. Combining the two was sure to create a movie that I wouldn't ever want to see.
The plot? Engaging, certainly. Two and half hours long, and it kept my attention reasonably well. Better than many movies of late.
The photography? Amazing. I always knew there was a militant samurai faction hiding out in Taranaki, but that just proved it. And the picture type niss was good.
Would I see it again? Here's the part where I hesitate. I'm not sure. I'd reccomend it to others, but I'm not sure yet wether it would be one that I'd own on DVD to watch again and again. I'll probably rent it, and decide then.
