The Debt Collector was the first non-comedian role I saw Billy Connolly in, at the same time I knew it was no comedy before going in. Even in this role BC (as Nickie Dryden) manages to be funny ("that c* was round the hoose?"), and plays the character magnificently.
Ken Stott plays the obsessive cop who is unable to let go, and continues to hound Nickie Dryden and his family. In doing so he is believable, to the point where you feel something towards him. I'm not sure if it was hatred (during certain scenes) or pity, or combination of the two.
